Aladdin Ashkar
Aladdin Ashkar, President

On January 6, Aladdin Ashkar was appointed as President of Basehor’s Chamber of Commerce at their first board meeting of 2010.

Ashkar, who was raised in Leavenworth, is the son of Dr. Adnan & Amal Ashkar.   He is a 1998 graduate of Immaculata High School, and earned his degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Henry Bloch School of Business.
For the last seven years, Ashkar has worked as a Loan Officer for area community banks, specializing in commercial and real-estate loans. He currently is a Vice President and Commercial Lending Officer for Community National Bank in Basehor.

This is Ashkar’s third year on the Basehor Chamber Board of Directors, having most recently served as Vice President. Ashkar is also one of the original founders of the Young Professionals of Leavenworth County and is a member of Leavenworth County Development Corporation. 

He is married to Aundria (Kersten) Ashkar and they have two sons, Laith, 3, and Zaid, who will be 1 in February.

Gayle Runnels

Gayle has been a member of the chamber as a representative of Citizen's Savings & Loan Association, FSB for the over 15 years and served on the Chamber Board as its Treasurer, Vice-President and President in 2009 and 2009. Gayle moved to Basehor in her junior year in high school and has lived here in the area with her husband, Kent, for all except 5 years.

Gayle and Kent have three sons that were raised in Basehor. They feel this area is a great place to raise children. Gayle has seen a lot of changes over the years and looks forward to new growth and business development in and around the City of Basehor.

Mary Fallesen
Mary Fallesen, Treasurer

This is Mary's second year on the board and holds the Treasurer position. She is the Business Manager/Co-Owner of Basehor business, United Title Company, LLC since March 2007 (business founded in Nov 2004). Prior to that she had many positive job experiences including office management, mortgage lending, and title insurance.

She is married to Jon, who works for CAL, Ft. Leavenworth (Center for Army Leadership) and lives in Lansing, since 1985. Mary has 2 grown children, 1 grandson and, they all live in California (If she is out of the office, she is probably there!) She has lived and raised her family in Lansing but now loves working in Basehor.

Past offices held:  Leavenworth Assistance Center, treasurer; Member of Lansing United Methodist Church and Westside Family Church; Member of Real People in Real Estate (formerly Women’s Council of Realtors). Hobbies include: quilting, costuming for local theater, baking and gardening, spending time with my family, and traveling (traveling to California).

This is Jim's third year as a board member on the Basehor Chamber of Commerce. His is the Chairman of the Economic ic Development Committee. He currently works for Community National Bank in Basehor as a a Loan Officer and also handles review work for the bank.

Jim's other involvement includes being a Trustee of Basehor United Methodist Church, CASA Volunteer, Heart of America Fly Fishers, Officer and Outings Committee.

Kimberly Miller-Tallman
Kim Miller-Tallman

This is Kim's second year back to the Board. Kim has been a resident of the Basehor/Bonner Springs area since 1984. After moving her family and business, Miller Sign Shoppe, to Basehor in 1984, she joined the Chamber and was a board member for several years. In 1997 they relocated to Sherman Township, where she joined the volunteer fire department and has been serving as a Firefighter/EMT for the past 11 years.

She and her husband Dan Tallman, owner of Tallman Auto Body in Kansas City Kansas, have between them 4 adult children who went to school in the Basehor-Linwood District from Kindergarten - 12th grade. Even though she was raised in California and Maryland, she considers Leavenworth County to be her home. She is very interested in the growth our area is experiencing and wants to explore ways to help lessen our environmental footprint as business owners and as a community.

Carl Slaugh
Carl Slaugh

Mr. Slaugh, a native of Logan, Utah, has six years of professional local government executive experience combined with prior management experience from his 20 years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his appointment as city administrator in Basehor in 2006, he served as city administrator for the City of Hiawatha from 2002 to 2006 and as community development coordinator for the City of Merriam from 2000 to 2002. He has a bachelor and master's degree in Industrial Education from Utah State University, Logan, Utah and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Kansas. Mr. Slaugh is married to the former Cheryl K. Doudna of Earlville, Iowa and they have five children and 11 grandchildren.
