Over 2,600 pre-K – 12th grade students currently attend one of seven district attendance centers. K-5 buildings are located in Linwood, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision, and an Early Learning Center opened in 2020 for preschool children in Basehor. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12 through general education classes, a Career and Technical Education Center, the Innovation Academy and Bobcat Success Academy. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 200 K-12 students statewide. Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
A 2018 bond issue was passed by the community to build two new elementary buildings to move Linwood Elementary to a new building at K-32 and Stillwell Road, and add Gray Hawk Elementary as a new K-5 building in Basehor near the new Early Learning Center on Garden Parkway. Also approved in Bond 2018 were a secure entrance at Glenwood Ridge Elementary School, a bus entrance at Basehor-Linwood Middle School, additional classrooms on the 6th, 7th and 8th grade wings, and a 750-seat performing arts center (nearing completion), with an additional parking lot near the PAC for events at Basehor-Linwood Middle School. We are also currently designing a more secure front entrance for BLHS. Recent capital outlay improvements at BLHS include new turf on the football field and turf on the soccer and softball fields, currently under construction, and moving the current baseball field, then adding a turf infield that will be complete this summer.
The USD 458 Board of Education accepted the retirement of Mr. David Howard at their December meeting, and recently approved a contract with Mr. Doug Powers to become the next superintendent, effective July 1, 2021.
